Veneers Q & A

What are veneers?

Dental veneers are thin porcelain covers for the front of your teeth. Veneers are simple to install and cover and correct a variety of cosmetic dental issues. Many patients choose veneers for the natural appearance since the porcelain can be tinted to match your neighboring teeth.

What dental conditions do veneers correct?

Dr. Burquez suggests veneers to correct cosmetic issues, including:

  • Staining that doesn’t respond to teeth whitening treatment
  • Chipped teeth
  • Unevenly sized teeth
  • Gaps and other minor alignment issues

How are veneers fitted?

If Dr. Burquez recommends veneers as the best treatment to address your dental concerns, your veneers will be fitted in two appointments.

During the first appointment, Dr. Burquez will clean your teeth thoroughly and check to make sure they are healthy enough to be fitted with veneers.

He will then remove a thin layer of your tooth enamel to make room for the veneer to sit flush against your neighboring teeth and gums.

He will take a mold of your teeth which is sent to a lab where your permanent veneer is custom made to fit your mouth. You will be fitted with temporary veneers while your permanent veneers are being made.

You’ll have a second appointment where Dr. Burquez will bond your custom veneers to your teeth with a dental cement, then polish and buff the veneers until they shine like your natural teeth.

How do I take care of veneers?

You take care of your veneers just as you do natural teeth. Brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss at least once a day. Have a checkup and professional cleaning at least twice a year. With proper care, dental veneers can last for 20 years or more, providing you with a bright, white, youthful smile.
