Invisalign is an innovative orthodontic treatment that corrects dental alignment issues including gaps and overcrowding to create a straight and healthy smile. Invisalign treatment uses a series of clear plastic dental trays, custom-designed and manufactured to guide each patient’s teeth into the correct alignment. The trays are made from clear, medical-grade, BPA-free plastic and are more or less invisible while being worn.
Like traditional metal braces, Invisalign gently pushes your teeth into the correct alignment. Dr. Burquez uses innovative 3D X-rays and scanning devices to map out where your teeth are, where they should be and the precise movements needed to guide your teeth into place. This map is sent to a lab where your aligners are made to follow your correction plan. You wear each set of aligners for two weeks before switching them for the next pair in the series. You will have appointments every two weeks for the first couple of months so Dr. Burquez can monitor your initial progress and then every four to six weeks until the end of your treatment.
The length of time needed to correct the alignment of your teeth varies on the severity of your misalignment. Some patients needing minor correction may wear the aligners for nine months while those seeking major alignment corrections may need to wear them for up to two years.
The most obvious benefit is that the aligners are clear and you don’t have the traditional appearance of a mouth full of metal when you talk or smile.
Since the aligners are made from smooth clear plastic, they do not irritate the soft tissues of your mouth like the insides of your cheeks or gums.
The aligners are also removable, so you can eat what you want during treatment and brush and floss your teeth as normal, which helps to prevent tooth decay, cavities, and plaque buildup. It is recommended to wear your aligners for at least 22 hours each day, only taking them out to eat and clean your teeth.
During your Invisalign treatment, it is recommended to brush and floss your teeth after every meal and snack. You will also have more frequent appointments with Dr. Burquez during your Invisalign treatment to monitor your progress and the health of your teeth.
